The purpose of this highway is to provide a direct connection between the southern and central regions of Colombia with the port of Cartagena and the northern part of the country, as well as the northeast of Antioquia with the Ruta del Sol concession through Puerto Berrío, becoming one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the country.
The project involves improving the existing roadway, rehabilitating the remainder of the Alto de Dolores-Puerto Berrío stretch, and constructing a new single-carriageway road between Remedios and Alto de Dolores. Within the project, there are plans for 11 bridges or viaducts, as well as upper and lower vehicular passes.
