Due to the level of traffic it was carrying, it was decided to widen it by introducing a series of additional toll lanes. The planned section is about 8 km long with three additional tolled lanes in each direction. The location in an urban area means that a large part of the project will have to be carried out at different levels.<\/p><p>The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) awarded it with the 2016 Alliant Build America Award in the Civil Design-Build category.<\/p><p>The project consists of the design of a LBJ Express highway section, relieving traffic from Interstate Highways 35E and 635 in Dallas, Texas.<\/p><p>A new concept is introduced: the \"<em>managed lanes<\/em>\", which offer a solution to congestion in urban areas. The project modifies the existing highway with seven lanes in each direction, three of which are new toll lanes.
