For the past 16 years, the Government of Timor-Leste has conducted engineering studies to support the development of a 5 MTPA LNG plant and associated infrastructure on the southern coast of Timor-Leste. This LNG facility is designed to process treated feed gas extracted from the Greater Sunrise and Troubador fields, located about 200 km south of Timor-Leste in the Timor Sea. An ultra-deepwater export pipeline would connect the offshore production facilities to the onshore LNG plant, covering a distance of approximately 250 km. Translated with DeepL.com (free version

Recent developments have given further impetus to the project, following the ratification of a Maritime Boundary Treaty between Australia and East Timor and the acquisition by GoTL of a 57% interest in the Greater Sunrise field. As part of this progression, the GoTL has decided to relocate the LNG liquefaction plant to Natarbora, some 70 km west of Beaco on the south coast.
