Route 2 is the national route linking the country's capital, Asunción, with the capital of the Department of Caagazú, Coronel Oviedo, with an extension of 132 kilometres.

It has one or two lanes in each direction in different areas of its route. In 2013, they began the project to widen the entire road to make it four lanes wide. In the city of Coronel Oviedo, this route continues as Route 7, which ends in Ciudad del Este, on the border with Brazil. The project involves the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of Routes 2 and 7, including the improvement of the section between San Lorenzo and Ypacaraí.
