Brine outfall project for a desalination plant in Ensenada, Mexico

27,800 m³/day

total brine flow rate

The scope of the work consisted of the design of a brine discharge pipeline for the Ensenada desalination plant in Baja California, Mexico.

The proposed discharge system consisted of a single brine product line for a total flow of 27,800 m³/day, starting at the desalination plant and discharging to the seabed at a level of approximately -7.0m. Both the terrestrial and submarine sections were designed. At the end of the submarine pipeline, an 80 m diffuser section was designed with 10 150 mm diameter and 1 m high risers to guarantee good dilution of the brine in the marine environment.
