Oman Power and Water Procurement (OPWP) plans to build a desalination plant in Qurayyat, approximately 60 km south of the Muscat region. The plant, currently under construction, is expected to produce 200,000 m³ of potable water per day using the reverse osmosis technique.
The underwater pipelines for the plant consist of two twin pipes made of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) on the landward section, from the pump and discharge chamber to a ventilation chamber located 85 meters from the shore. In the marine section, there are two pipes with a diameter of 1800 mm for intake and 1400 mm for brine discharge, made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). The plant will draw approximately 19,000 m³/h of seawater and discharge between 10,600-11,700 m³/h of brine.
Location Qurayyat, region of Muscat, Oman
Date: 2014
Scope of the project: proyecto de licitación de las obras exteriores de la desaladora de Qurayyat. Estimación de costes de financiación.
